Celebrating Collaboration: Key Moments from the 2025 GWEP Preconference
The 2025 GWEP-CC Preconference at the Gerontological Society of America’s (GSA) annual scientific meeting brought together leaders in geriatrics education, innovation, and workforce development for a full day of learning, collaboration, and celebration.
The day opened with remarks from AGS CEO Nancy Lundebjerg and GWEP-CC Co-PI Jan Busby-Whitehead, setting the stage for a program focused on emerging technologies, partnership building, and sharing best practices across the national GWEP network.
A keynote session on The Promise and Peril of Artificial Intelligence by Steven Waldren sparked thoughtful discussion about the role of AI in geriatrics. Attendees then moved into the popular GWEP Marketplace, featuring 42 Cohort 3 GWEPs, where teams showcased tools, curricula, and innovations from their programs.
During lunch, the GWEP community honored Nina Tumosa for her leadership and longstanding contributions to the field. The afternoon shifted into roundtable discussions, where participants explored two central questions: How is AI being used in GWEP work, and what lessons support sustainable partnerships? Each table shared one takeaway that generated the most excitement.
The preconference closed with an update on the Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition’s apprenticeship program, followed by remarks from GWEP-CC leaders and The John A. Hartford Foundation.
Overall, the preconference served as a vibrant space for exchanging ideas, strengthening collaborations, and highlighting the innovative work happening across GWEPs nationwide.
