Learning Objectives
- Understand what is meant by ‘what matters’ in the context of an Age Friendly Health Care system
- Understand the management strategies for older patients with influenza, COVID-19, and RSV
- Describe the relationship between HIV and aging
- Discuss the impact medical conditions and medications can have on oral health
- Recommend shoe modifications and foot/toe padding devices to alleviate pain and injury.
- List ways that older adults may present differently with coronary artery disease (CAD).
- Discuss evidence-based OT interventions to support occupational engagement in older adults
- Describe a framework for approaching ethical dilemmas (CASES approach)
- Describe four trajectories of care for people with serious illness who are unhoused and implications for care planning
Moderator
Barbara Cochrane, PhD, RN, FAAN
Our series is organized, planned, and moderated by the fantastic Barbara Cochrane. Dr. Cochrane is our Northwest Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center’s Co-Director and Professor Emeritus in the School of Nursing. Her work focuses on older women’s health and healthy aging, specifically positive aspects of aging, symptoms in older women, breast cancer prevention and survivorship, and cardiovascular health.

University of Washington Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
UW Continuing Nursing Education requires a $45 processing fee for a contact hour certificate for the series.
15 contact hours (1.5 per session)
- Continuing Nursing Education at the University of Washington School of Nursing (UWCNE) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
- UWCNE is approved as a clock hour provider by the Washington State Board of Education.
- Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #7128, for 15 contact hours (1.5 per session).
Psychologists: UWCNE qualifies as a Washington State CE program sponsor under WAC 246-924-240
Social Workers and Counselors: UWCNE qualifies as a Washington State CE program sponsor under WAC 246-809-601
All Other Disciplines: A UWCNE certificate for up to 15 contact hours (1.5 per session) will be awarded for documenting completion of this offering.
HOW TO OBTAIN PROFESSIONAL CREDIT:
We partner with University of Washington, Continuing Nursing Education (UW CNE) to provide continuing education credit. Please complete for CE Credit, there is a $45 processing fee.- Go to Geriatric Healthcare Series Winter 2024 | CE Credit

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has reviewed the Spring 2023 Geriatric Healthcare Series, and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 1/4/2024 to 3/7/2024. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.
Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. There is no processing fee for Continuing Medical Education.
