Learning Objectives
- Discuss the four elements that comprise the “4Ms” framework of age-friendly care and at least one way to address each in a clinical encounter with older adults.
- Identify an evidence-based pharmacological approach and an evidence-based non-pharmacological approach for pain management in older adults.
- Describe the impact frailty can have on the well-being of an older adult.
- Identify one or more strategies for assessing and addressing cultural and linguistic disparities in palliative care for older adults.
- Discuss ways to introduce mindfulness and other principles of wellness in discussions with older adults.
- Identify 2 or more common, benign skin lesions seen in older adults.
- Explain how the evaluation and management of urinary incontinence might differ for older women and older men.
- Describe best practices in stroke prevention and early management.
- Identify where to find information about alternative treatments to selected medications in the Beers Criteria for potentially inappropriate medication use in older adults.
- Discuss available AI technologies, both current and evolving, in terms of their best and safest uses in older adults.
Moderator
Barbara Cochrane, PhD, RN, FAAN
Our series is organized, planned, and moderated by Barbara Cochrane. Dr. Cochrane is our Northwest Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center’s Co-Director and Professor Emeritus in the School of Nursing. Her work focuses on older women’s health and healthy aging, specifically positive aspects of aging, symptoms in older women, breast cancer prevention and survivorship, and cardiovascular health.
Professional Credit
NW GWEC will not be offering continuing education credits (CE) for this year’s geriatric healthcare series. Series attendees will be provided a certificate of attendance and series background documentation at the end of the series to submit to employers and/or their respective state licensing boards for continuing education (CE) consideration.
